The "Last Night" in Hanoi, Vietnam (2016)
Along with an awesome tale of how we somehow interested these beautiful Japanese girls to come drinking with us back at the hostel we were staying at in Hanoi we also had the opportunity to run a game (instead of being taught it) that we were excited to unveil as a new product to willing bystanders.
This game was introduced to us as a variation of Euchre. This became a hit in our circle as it was a lot easier to explain than euchre in a way but was also much more inclusive-this game could have as many people as needed and basically to include more people-you play with more cards (wider range, not more of the same cards).
Step one, you will need to track everyone's name on a page in one column and in the column next to that, begin tallying about 10 or however many rounds you will be playing for. This game can be played to points or just to rounds but regardless, it is always a good time, try both ways if you are really enjoying the game.
Step two, once all players are accounted for, the game begins with the dealer tracking "bets". The goal of the game is to collect the most points overall-each round, the goal is really just a matter of being able to score the number of wins predicted. The difficult part about "making the bets" is that each person will have the chance to say how many "tricks" (hands) they will win in each round, however the total number of bets between the players needs to add up to the exact amount of hands that will be played (5 is the standard however sometimes people add more based on player numbers and variants). The dealer is the last to make their bet.
Note: If there are no more bets that can be placed due to a player(s) calling up all the possible hands, the later players MUST bet that they will win NO hands ("0"), every time someone guesses under or over their bets, they lose that many points. It is safe to bet "0", you do not need to make a bet-but as I said before if you are the dealer and there are still bets available, the dealer receives the forced bet of whatever bets are left. So, sometimes the dealer has the toughest bet of all because sometimes, they don't necessarily get to choose what they get.
The dealer flips the top card for ALL to see, with the kitty beneath it (unseen by all). This step is exactly the same as it is in the initial beginning of each hand in Euchre.
The game follows the same procedure as Euchre from here on until the end of the round.
After the round is over, the players begin to tally scores, those who hit their mark get the points and everyone else either stays with no points lost or made if they bet and hit zero-others lose points based on how far off their mark they were.
Good luck! Have fun gaming!
