New Orleans 2016

As my family grows, develops and I become older (maybe not wiser), I see more and more merit in sharing my experiences. Reminiscence of the past is something of a past time for older generations, but along with our bodies, our minds are also slowly withering away. As a service to my future family members young old, blood and relational-I wish to share you my experiences. i hope that I can impart my experiences into knowledge for you. and even though I may not be around forever-hopefully my ideals and principles are, because at the end of the day-those are exactly what brought you to this page in the first place. Lily has the full collection of our experiences together. Online, there are only bits and pieces to I/we learned and experienced throughout our life together (and my life before family). The only other thing I would recommend to learn more is to go to the places I was once standing and take in those monumental moments that make us the people we are meant to be. I love you S

Expat.com Interview! (2018)

Here are the answers to the questions you asked me for the interview. All the best! 1. Please introduce yourself. Where are you from, what are you doing in China, and what were you doing before you arrived in China? I am Carmelo Bono, moved to China five years ago now. I graduated from Lakehead University in Northern Ontario (Canada), needed work and decided that out of all the places I could go; it is best I go to China. 2. What brought you to China? How long have you been  there ? Work in Canada as a teacher is limited, especially for English, and Social Science High School teachers. Not that a person can't find work, but specifically work in the town/area I wanted. If I was going to be moving far away from home, thought it also reasonable to travel (very far away from).  3. What is the process to move to China? The process for myself was quite simple really, however it is getting progressively more difficult for different passport holders to move to China becaus

Things you might not know about that stuff we call coffee.

Coffee was first discovered in the fifteenth century while a legendary goat herder "Kaldi" was out tending his sheep/goats and noticed that they reacted strangely to a bright red cherry that they consumed during outings. He then took it to a monastery after trying it himself to find that at the monastery he and a monk created the world's first cup of coffee. Black Coffee with no sugar-NO CALORIES! There ya go weight watchers! "Coffee" the actual name comes from proposed origins. One origin (I think makes the most sense), is that word Coffee, comes from the name of the province of Ethopia in which coffeee was originated-Kaffa. Coffee is believed to boost fertility in men...aphrodisiac?! Well, according to ask.men and another website there is reason to believe that it promotes stimulation of the senses/reproductive system which in turn could mean...anything you eat that makes you feel good, could be an aphrodisiac as long as it makes you feel good and promot

The Story of Kopi Luwak (Wiesel Coffee)

Dutch colonial rule during the 18th century was not just a fruitful time for the Dutch in the "East-indies", but also for the people of Indonesia thereafter. The Dutch were colonizing the west-indies when they realized that the land in Indonesia (Arabic Bean), would do well to be planted in Indonesia. The Dutch shipped Yemen's beans to the East Indies through the "East-Indies Trading Co." Soon thereafter, the plantations were scavenged by Luwak (Civet). The droppings of the jungle cat were found and noticeably a coffee bean. The processing of the fruit from around the Bean was easily absorbed into the body of the Luwak while the bean remind intact even after defecation. This was an extremely beneficial thing for local Indonesians as they were specifically instructed not to remove the beans from the plantation. Nothing was ever said about collecting them from the wild jungle, storing them and harvesting them to brew their own coffee. Upon eventually hearin

Vietnam Visas (2015)

This is an update (2023) Vietnam has continued their visas on arrival as well as their visas through online carriers. Generally speaking, there is not a big difference with upon arrival versus online unless you are looking to be prepared/save time (they list you and when you cross the land border, tis much mroe convenient, you can get your visa and go back to your bus for the remainder of the 30 minutes-1 hour while others are bumbling around uncertain how to pay for their visa as they don't have cash or credit on them-most do-but sometimes). ATM's are a bit of a pain in the rear with surcharges, so unless you can USD or VND, you are best ordering up an online visa to save yourself any strife on the trip, generally costs the same, if someone is telling you it costs more than 30 USD, I'd wager they are looking in the wrong places. A Trip to Dandong For 30 hrs. (Updated 2023)

Updating the travel situation in Dandong.  Being here now in the summer of 2023, I can definately say that tourism is once again booming to the same depth as it was prior ro COVID. Dandong's economical sustenance generally comes from what seems to be Hydro-Electricity; International Trading with North Korea and Tourism. During the COVID-19 Pandemic Dandong was right up there with ridiculous restrictions and inconveniences with that of Shanghai. Coming here last year, I actually got threatened with a fine if I didn't stay with a proper hotel that was going to register me in as a resident. I returned this summer and didn't they want to make me sit and wait for the better part of an hour and half at the police station because I was staying with a private residence of a colleague rather than a hotel. At some point one needs to question, "would they know and find me if I did not go voluntarily to register locally?" Jerks. Anyways, Dandong is bustling with BBQ on the si

The "Last Night" in Hanoi, Vietnam (2016)

Along with an awesome tale of how we somehow interested these beautiful Japanese girls to come drinking with us back at the hostel we were staying at in Hanoi we also had the opportunity to run a game (instead of being taught it) that we were excited to unveil as a new product to willing bystanders. This game was introduced to us as a variation of Euchre. This became a hit in our circle as it was a lot easier to explain than euchre in a way but was also much more inclusive-this game could have as many people as needed and basically to include more people-you play with more cards (wider range, not more of the same cards). Step one, you will need to track everyone's name on a page in one column and in the column next to that, begin tallying about 10 or however many rounds you will be playing for. This game can be played to points or just to rounds but regardless, it is always a good time, try both ways if you are really enjoying the game. Step two, once all players are accounte
