The weekend may have began with hockey but it ended with the great news of a fellow Dragon family (Richard and Lana Hall) whose daughter (Anna Jessie Shey Hall, 8lbs 30oz; 51cm) was brought into the world as a New Years baby. The news was awaited all weekend as the Dragons and their fans were travelling to Anshan for a game and Liaoyang for a game.
Anshan was a trip in itself, (the third largest city in Liaoning) and had a lot to offer that visitors on this trip are eager to discover. Fans and Dragons had done one of the things that not many tourists and travelers have the opportunity to do in Anshan-play hockey. The game was three 20 min periods and was played on a well built river rink. Among the goals scored, goal tending for the dragons was Lanthier and Andrew Henderson. Jordan Gray (usual goalie) wanted time on the open ice to refine his skills while a fan laced up and hit the ice. Welcoming the potential dragon-Terry "Madman" Madill.
The New Years weekend was certainly one to be remembered. After a long time coming, the Dragons made the journey back around to the very first place that they ever played hockey as a team.  The game locations were different claimed Paul Wright "the first time we played in Liaoyang, they actually had boards in a parking lot and flooded it out. Iy was great this year." The difference between the ice this weekend some of the other rinks was fresh! As the Dragons played on natural river and lake ice they were also trying to the local beverages and foods. The Dragons were treated to banquets and great competition all weekend as they were playing upon arrival in Anshan in the afternoon and then the next morning as they bused to the next game.
Welcomed by the big red banner "Welcome Canadian Hockey fans to demonstrate Your Excellent Skills" fans and players became excited with the abundant variety of activities available to spectators and players. Fans were huddled around the rink taking photos and enjoying the weather as the Dragons were really giving a show of their skills for spectators and the Liaoyang-Anshan team. Welcoming a couple new Dragons who proved fortified after a calssic Dragons banquet held their own and even excelled on the ice as they braved the adventure from all the way from Tianjin, Bo Webster and Daniel "Dud" Padula (regardless of he renowned use of the word "Dud" he really isn't).
New Years was welcomed in with a blowout of an event among the fans and players at the hotel for a late lunch in Liaoyang. The team would like to use this segue to thank a few individuals who really made this weekend special. Megan K., Kait Hooper, Viv I., Linds Richards, Tori Hisey, Terry Madill, Pat Elraffie, Heather Kirk, Bo Webster and Daniel "Dud" Padula.
