First Time-Task 2 (Dalian Ice Dragons, History in the Making)

Task 2- Hey guys if possible, could you fire me your first ever experience with the Dalian Ice Dragons? (BONO) "David Nussbaumer told me he was going to sign up and come play if I signed up-automatically taken back to the high school experience of my best friend and I signing up for Football just cause of a pact…the only difference was back then buddy stuck it out, this time around I found grace and he flaked. That month we played a solid couple weeks and went to Beijing" (MCFARLAND) I'm not sure exactly what year my first run in with the Dalian Ice Dragons was but I know it was in Shenyang (maybe 2012?). The Dragons were a bunch of Canadians coming up from Dalian, and those of us playing for the Shenyang BingYing Hockey team were hoping we would kick their butts! I played on the 2nd line of the Shenyang squad and it was soon apparent that we were outclassed. Dalian had some real good players, a short fast winger named Adrian and #19 their centerman, whose

Tales from Thailand 1 (Feb 2015)

Image
Backpacking on a Budget The trip began a week or so before we arrived in Thailand. We visited Singapore and Malaysia where there was a lot less tourist traps in the open than there are in Thailand. Nonetheless we arrived in Thailand and began the Thai leg of the journey to Phuket (Southwestern Thailand). There were many options for us three travellers as we had never made it to Thailand in previous travels. We found immediately it would be much more beneficial to know where to exchange money beforehand we were going to be flying in late. After arriving we needed to get a cab and we realized that foreign credit/debit cards sometimes malfunction in the machines. At least one of us were able to take out cash. We took about a 40 minute or so cab to Bangla Road from the airport to Patong Beach. We headed to our first Hostel in Phuket known as “ Cool Backpackers ” . Later, (as in after we stepped out of the cab) we found that this was a more seedy and party-like location than most of th

"Dalian Ice Dragons" Thank Martin Avery

https://www.amazon.com/Hockey-Night-China-Dragons-Dalian/dp/1304921107 Check out this book on Amazon by Martin Avery. He is a writer from Gravenhuerst, ON (Canada). He has written over 100 pieces and is globally known as an adventure writer as well as an unconventional renaissance man. He is currently living in Jinshitan (Dalian), Liaoning. In China, he is teaching English in a BC offshore school. The book itself was renounced by the Dalian Ice Dragons as a unjust writing to the true adventure of the team. On the other hand, it does need to be noted and appreciated that the fans and friends of the team are willing to take the time to support the family of "The Dalian Ice Dragons" in this way. I hope you enjoy the read as much as I did, you can also find a preview copy on google books. If you have questions or would like to know how you can support "The Dalian Ice Dragons", start by visiting our team site. https://carmbono.wixsite.com/dalianicedragons

The Vow in Dandong-Chinese Wedding

In Dandong I was nervous, shaking like a life, totally not confident about my speaking of the Chinese language, especially not in front of Ge’Men’Er, but I was let to believe I did well-mean’t a lot-but I am already looking forward to our first anniversary where I can tell my beautiful wife again how much she means to me. Love you Babe! 上邪! 上邪! 我欲与君相知, 长命无绝衰。 山无陵, 江水为竭, 冬雷震震, 夏雨雪 , 天地合, 乃敢与君绝! Translation: I want to be your love for ever and ever, Without break or decay. When the hills are all flat, The rivers are all dry. When it thunders in winter, When it snows in summer When heaven and earth mingle, Not till then will I part from you The most interesting part was that I came across this jut trying to learn some Chinese poems and practice my understanding of the language more, maybe a sign..”never stop trying to understand your future wife”

The first of Many!

Here it is the very first time that the Dalian Ice Dragons have been discussed in the media for an audience (at least the first time in a long time). My name is Carmelo Bono (75), I have been a Dalian Ice Dragon for a year and a bit. It is my pleasure to share this world with all of you now.

Weekend in Wuhan

Image
Weekend in Wuhan November 25 th , 2017 the Dalian Ice Dragons left Dalian to take on a rival of sorts, the “Wuhan Ice Dragons”. The weekend was an overall success in which new friends were made, and the Dalian Ice Dragons won the first of two games as well as a “Tie Breaker Period”. The first game was 4-3, the second game was a questionable, 3-1. Finally Wuhan decided to offer Dalian a chance for redemption in which a 13 minute period was played “probably the hardest anyone has ever seen Riley McIntosh play” said one of the dragons as McIntosh was driving the net as an Offensive-Defense Man. The first game was held together with some solid stick handling and passing between offense. The dynamic duo Andy Kanmacher (put two goals on the scoreboard) and Jason Levy pulled it together and stuck it to Wuhan heavily. Andy Henderson (not just a pretty face) was not only being encouraging and enthusiastic buy also kind enough to show us the Henderson stick handling skills through the def

MLIS "Maple Leaf Canadian Food Court"-Review (2017)

Image
UPDATE: 2021/12/09 The ML food court is long since gone. replaced by a kids restaurant actually. The new restaurant is apart of the kids themed mall, and is about 98RMB for kids to play in the play area (I believe that is for an hour?), eating there will allow your child to play there for free, but its not cheap to eat there either-the food doesn't look worth it. __________________________________________________________________________________ Forget the poorly thought of name for a moment and remember that you are in China, working for a large organization that loves to "try different things" and is really good at just "making it work". expansion and promotion are two areas in which the organization is developing in yet but there are some signs of improvement, for example-this restaurant. The restaurant "The Maple Leaf Canadian Food Court" is located in Kaifaqu of Dalian. For those who are unfamiliar-Dalian is in the Northeastern area of China (Don

Income Tax for Foriegners

To begin this, I'll sum up that if you are not necessarily interested in my own personal outlooks and views on things this is what you would like to see and get assitance with if you are an Expat in China who has no idea of how taxation works. http://www.china-briefing.com/news/2015/01/28/paying-foreign-employees-individual-income-tax.html For those of you who appreciate and looked forward to my "Feihua", here it is. I have been in China for four years now, just when I think I understand how things work-I'm wrong (or it changed). Regardless of what it is when you read this, it is this for the time being. Realistically it is not as bad as one may think it to be when comparing the tax process from here to other places such as in the Middle East. Again, the view is from an outsider of that culture and expat community, however it still seems to be a relatively  conversed and ranging topic of positives and negatives. The tax system in China has its benefits as wel

Kharma Group Bali Motorcycle-Timeshare Scam (2017)

Image
When travelling to Bali, avoid timeshare pitches and unnecessary trips to a hotel you are not staying at because someone wants to show you around. Kharma Group Hotel in Bali issues motorcycle taxis with the right to advertise for the hotel by handing out award coupons/visitation reward opportunities. A word to the wise, avoid scams. The Kharma Group is EXACTLY that! They are located in Denpassar and although their hotels may look nice and be run by an international board, they still run shady business deals.  There website can be found here   A tripadvisor forum about the scam can be found at this address here   Be weary of individuals handing out similar cards to this and offering a paid taxi there. Thinking about it realistically, if you win with the "Gold Circle" and think about claiming the "Go Pro" (which by the way won't be a real Go Pro as it is not shown or sponsored in the card; 200.000 IDR (which will probably be used to pay for the taxi t
