Travel to HONG KONG Sept-Aug 2019-2020

Well, here I thought this thread was done for after having a son, or at least taking a turn towards travelling parents rather than nomad thrill seekers.

I got up this morning, worked on some French and was surprised to get an email from our superintendent of the school I work at. The email basically talks about Canadians being warned about travel to Hong Kong-and returning to China. I mean, to be Canadian in Hong Kong is no problem but if you are working in the mainland, be aware, it will not be fun getting back. With the political unrest in Hong Kong at this time, the borders are tight...to say the least.

Here is the memo sent to our company today,

"Canadian citizens working or travelling in China,

Please be aware that Canadian travellers to Hong Kong will likely experience a heightened screening by customs officers due to the tension in Hong Kong.  Be reminded that your stay in China will be a wonderful experience if you comply with the rules and regulations expected of foreigners living or travelling in China.  I travel extensively in China to visit our schools and I feel safe and welcomed in all of the cities that I have visited.  I expect the same welcoming spirit as we start this new school year.

I will ask Human Resources to advise the Canadian Embassy of the contact information for all Canadian teachers working at Maple Leaf, should you need to contact them for information or assistance.  Phone numbers and email addresses for the Canadian Consulate are provided for your convenience on the attached document.

We wish you a wonderful year as we begin the 2019-2020 school year!"

Anyways-Just wanted to share that out and make sure anyone heading that way from the Mainland, keeps that in mind.

Cheers!
