"Warriors, Come Out to Play!" (Xi'An Mar.2019)
This was a big weekend for the Dragons from “first-times” to “Busta-Mouland-Rhymes”. The weekend was kicked off with a small competition between rookies of the Dalian Ice Dragons. To recognize a few of the contestants, among the many skills collectively enjoyed in the Dragon’s circle, Crystal Mouland (one of the only female Dragons in flock), demonstrated exceptional wit, but in the end Willie-Rae (Hangzhou West-Laker, Dragon at Heart) had the competition wiped as they dried the tears after the touching poem he wrote about his Dragon’s Cardigan.
Following our arrival in Xi’An we began our busy day with a “skills and skate” in which Dragons were working with youngsters to develop understanding of drills and develop some skills. After this, the hockey community leaders of Xi’An brought the game to the Dragons in a 4 on 4 (first to five). With out of townees, JR, Padulla, and Willie Rae, this was an essential beginning to an excellent weekend.
Our Dragons exec. was gracious enough to set up fans and players with a tour to see the Terracotta Warriors (Thanks to Jordan Gray and Shea Mac)! A full day of trinket shopping, laughter and photographer yielded a rare photo opt in which the farmer, (Mr. Yang) who found the Terracotta Warriors in his farmer field in 1975, took a picture with various Dragons and wore the Dragon’s MVP scarf to honour his esteemed visitors.
Following the wonderful day out of town, the Dragons were invited to dinner and were able to share laughter, cheers, and jeers with fans and the Xi’An Warriors Hockey Team. The gentlemen from the Xi’An Warriors hockey team made a lasting impression on the Dalian Ice Dragons as they took them to the well hidden gems of the Xi’An city wall area (North).
Sunday, the Dragons were playing exceptionally well, and out of good spirit would like to say that both games, (Saturday and Sunday) were worthwhile opportunities to make new friends, reach new locations, and ultimately enjoy the one thing we all love-hockey.
