Five Countries, Four Weeks Pt.10 "Jungle Beach, Nha Trang"
Sunrise appeared
as though someone just turned the lights on, clouds cleared out and the sun
began to glisten on the beach’s water before us. Pretty amazing to just have a
warm yet crisp morning, sparkling beach water before you and just silence aside
from the odd gull call. After waiting for his cab to pick us up, we were
beginning to get excited for the resort. He had mentioned it was secluded but
we were so far from a real town that the ATM close to the resort only had money
in it every couple weeks and well, it meant we got to take a trip into to town
every so often.
Jungle Beach was
an amazing 4 days, everything from the food to the nearby hiking. Syl can’t
offer a whole bunch of activities but he does like company and very much enjoys
hearing about folks talk about how much they enjoy their time there as well
what nearby things they may have discovered while wandering around. For
instance, the waterfalls he told us to check out were maybe a 5 minute or less
walk up from the resort. If you are a real trekker, climb the hill right in
front of the resort and dare to venture through endless thorns for a beautiful
view of the beach. The locals around here are friendly but beware of dogs that
are not tied up, I had one snap at me, so I snapped back. A young child just about
keeled over laughing with his friends, probably thinking how stupid that man is
for trying to scare a dog. I eat dogs, what am I afraid of, they should be
afraid of me! But I digress, the resort was affordable and had extremely
flexible/negotiable rates depending on time of stay and what not. Contact “Jungle
Beach” through their website for more information about their rates.
The second last
day of “Jungle Beach” brought the idea of scuba diving to Kyle. It was
something he had wanted to try and something I never thought of as motivated to
attempt. “Why not?” We contacted a friend of Syl’s who ran a scuba diving shop
called “Rainbow Dive”. What an adventure it was, we did not expect such an
experience. It was alarming for the body to be able to breathe underwater but
after the initial shock and learning how to manage oneself at a regular motion
through the water, it was like a dream. Everything a person wanted to ever do
all seemed to leave a person because all they could imagine is what else
someone could discover if a person kept swimming further and further out. We
had a great lunch, met some incredibly nice and awesome travellers after which
we made our way back to J.B. That night around the bonfire Kyle and I were
talking and it was the first time in a long time that I was truly clear minded,
regardless of the noise around us. We discussed the idea of how “we won’t ever
see the entire world or maybe even everything we want but nothing can stop us
from trying.” We were right, nothing can stop a person from tackling what it is
they truly want.
After leaving J.B.
we made way to the Airport in Nha Trang which was quite small but pleasant.
Restaurants and beer all around it which made it convenient and fine to be
around if someone were there early. We boarded our flight late in the afternoon
after having snake for dinner and awaited arrival in Hanoi. We needed to get
from Hanoi airport to the old quarter. The city of Hanoi is great in size and
extremely diverse but also quite dense. A trip to or from the airport was
almost a day’s trip in itself depending on what time one was going.
