Sanya, Hainan (China) 2022-Pt.2: Sanya Wan (Sanya Bay)
Recap:
We stayed two nights at Yalong Bay, and are now heading to the Sanya Oceanview Pullman.
The trip is an anniversary and summer vacation trip. My wife and I have been together for awhile, and my son has not yet had that REAL family vacation...well, actually-okay-so he has been on a few, I mean, I don't know what I am trying to say-I guess I feel that maybe the beaches in Sanya might be something special that he won't get for a long time, and although it will be a faded memory, maybe it will still mean something to him. I figure after this year-who knows what kind of subtropical/tropical travel we might not get to do as a family. Whatever, bucketlist kinda stuff aside-we are going to Sanya (三亚) Region of Hainan (海南)for 5 nights. We will be spending this trip in luxury hotels. The first two nights will be in Yalong Bay, and the last three nights will be in Sanya Bay (closer to the hotel so the 40 minute ride of Yalong Bay is not a rat race to make the flight against traffic conditions we are unfamiliar with in the peak season of travel). From there, we will be flying to Dandong.
Part 2:
This next portion of the trip is the final 2 nights of a 5 day trip, Yalong Bay being 40 minutes (on average away from the airport, figured, make the next portion of this trip still relaxing by making the move closer to the airport as we will likely be leaving early anyways-at least this way we don't need to spend AS long in transit throughout the day than we would (save 40 minutes, and maybe a few bucks-depending)
a. Intercontinental-after typhoon season, you need to call ahead to find out if their beaches were damaged and are under repair or not. (There is one in Dadonghai, but our child may be too small for the waves that come up to that beach-based on what was read).
b. Shangri-La Sanya-they have a ridiculous amount of family friendly facilities, but although they give a day here or a day there to try this and that, if you want to try something again-its ridiculously priced.
c. Park Hyatt Sunny Bay Resort-not somewhere I would imagine as the first place my son would fit well into, but its a slick looking deal-I mean, its a beach front, what more do you really need for your child?
d. Sanya Mangrove Resort, apparently a lot of folks say it is shadowed by the reputation and connotation of its neighbour-MGM Grand Resort. One might save a few dollars going to Mangrove, however the MGM has a reputation
e. Note: Avoid Harman Hotel...looks like the kind of place, I'd want my money back.
f. Sheraton Four-Points Hotel is basic, but close to the beach. It was not coming off as a real "kids friendly kinda place-they have the play area-but, meh. The price was 100-150 CNY more expensive than something like the Crowne Plaza-which may have actually been why Crowne was put back into the race, but the wife wouldn't admit it was a difference of 200 CNY/night that made the difference.
g. Crowne Plaza Sanya Bay; this was a second-take, I told my wife about it, but then we decided to just pass because of (I think it had to do with the location or rooms?), but then sure enough she couldn't make up her mind about it.
h. Hyatt City Center; at first my wife was interested because it would be a change from the beach after 3 days, however looking at the price-we decided for how much we might send on a city center hotel...might as well stay close enough that we could walk to the beach still if we wanted to.
i. Garden Inn Sanya-this was nearly the winning choice (location, price, facilities and the fact that we were staying with the Hilton in the first place), however I was able to convince my wife to leave in luxury hahaha I mean, airport pick up and drop-off is nice, even if it is only 6-11km away from the airport, you know what is nice-a hotel that cares, especially for the price dropped.
If returning ever, I'd be more willing to see Haiting, however if Yalong is amazing enough, meh-maybe just cut out more time for Dadonghai-Yalong-Haiting?
The main reason for avoiding Haikou is because my wife has been there before, she is not interested in returning, I don't blame her either-going for the ocean, not looking to see what teaching jobs are in the area XD (tour of the province/isle)
